 Check Raising as part of Poker Strategy.
Check raising is one of those strategies that has its uses, however if you are an aggressive player and you put out a lot of feeler bets you will find check raising fairly useless because you will get action with monster hands even if you bet. However the check raise does have its place in good poker strategy.
There are times when this is a good move. Also this tactic is a good one to incorporate as part of switching up your game. Check raising is something that you will also want to do when you flop a monster hand like Quads and you need you opponents to make a hand so you can get the most out of your hand. If you know that no one has anything and you bet you will not make anything on a great hand so this is the time to ck and let someone catch a hand then you can ck raise them. The nice thing about this is if you are known as an aggressive player that bets his monster hands this will throw your opponents off as well they will think if he had it he would have bet it earlier. This will probably get you even reraised. So this is why it is important to switch up your game.
You don’t ever want your opponents to know what you are doing, using the check raise to switch up your game every once in a while is perfect and will keep them guessing. Check raising is also great when you are in bad position and you know that the guy that has position will make a raise. If you have a monster you can just call, and then check raise and try and use a pot commitment to take him out. This is just another way to use the check raise combined with a pot commitment to trap a player in to making the wrong move. Sometimes when you play it this way it will look like you are chasing so generally the next bet will be even bigger to chase you out. This is what will cause the pot commitment then you use the check raise to finish the job.
