Getting Pot Committed.
Getting Pot committed is one of those things that can easily happen if you are not careful. This also tends to be one of those things that happen more often when you are short stacked and you have half your chips or more committed to a hand. So now you need to win the hand to continue especially if you are in a tournament. To not become pot committed it is best to carefully choose the hands that you get involved in especially if you are the short stack at the table. Don?t commit to many chips to a draw especially if you feel the other person has a super strong hand. It is going to cost you to draw if your opponent is sitting on two pair or a hand that is similarly as strong. Lets say you are on a straight draw and the other guy has two pair. Not only does he have two pair he also has a 16 percent chance to hit a full house on the turn or river. This is not a high percentage but it should be considered especially if you are low on chips and you are not drawing at the nuts then why commit more chips to the pot. If you pay too much to see the draw cards you will get so many chips committed in to the pot that you will feel that you are so deep in you have to stay in the hand. To avoid this make your moves carefully especially on draws, if you put your opponent on a strong hand and the price of poker gets to high you have to have the discipline to fold your hand and live to see another day. Getting pot committed is one of those things that happens to us all and I have found myself in this position before and lost my chips to it. This happens to the best of us. I just try and avoid it as much as possible. I played in a rebuy tournament where it happened to me. I hit 2 pair and the guy check raised me I went all in and ended up hitting a FH against his Flush. It mainly happened because I got so deep in I needed to call. I got lucky and hit which also put him on tilt and he was gone a few hands later. After the tournament I replayed the scenario and looked at what happened. After I looked at it I got pot committed and took my chances on a 16 percent chance to hit. I had K6 in the blind. Only the button played he had 2A of hearts. He did not raise and the flop comes K69 all hearts. I bet 1000 he calls the next card is a 4 of spades. I bet 3000 thinking he was drawing and he puts me all in. I only had 2400 left and the blinds were already at 1000 so I got in so deep I decided to call. I got lucky and the K hit on the river. He couldn?t believe it. I didn?t think he had the Flush yet based on his previous betting patterns. This was why I made the call but after wards I thought about it and I really got in so deep I don?t think I would have let go off the hand even if I thought he had it. Only having 1 ? the blinds left I would have been seriously gimped at that point. Things worked out however this is a situation to avoid I realize I got very lucky I didn?t loose this hand. So watch your steps and avoid getting pot committed as much as possible.
