 Playing Heads up.
Playing heads up poker is probably my favorite part of the game. Its when its mostly strategy and knowing your opponent and feeling him out to see if he has a strong hand or not. Heads up is all about betting. When I play heads up I bet, bet and bet again. You can make preflop raises with any suited connectors and of course your big hands like AK, AQ, AJ, and of course your monster hi pocket pairs as well as low pocket pairs a re raise worthy in heads up poker. This part of the game a lot of people have trouble with because they do not find themselves playing heads up a lot. Heads up is a different animal from the rest of the game. I have seen people win it with a pair of 2s or just a hi card. What becomes essential here is that you switch things up. When you are strong sometimes you want to bet strong and sometimes you want to show weakness. This will confuse your opponent. You also definitely want to bet your draws you will find that a lot of times that they will fold because they have nothing. Also a lot of your pots will be won preflop.
Heads up poker play is definite a game of aggression. You need to be aggressive here. What you might want to do is to invite over a buddy and play some heads up so you can get a feel for that part of the game. Also certain online poker rooms offer heads up sit n go’s starting at like 5 bucks a turn. This is a great way for you to practice your heads up game for cheap but still get a feel for it because there is something at stake.
Playing heads up poker is still the funest part of the game when you have played well and made it to the final table and now its heads up its time to bring you’re A game. Play aggressive as well as weak when you have monsters. Since this part of the game more players will try to steal sometimes a good strategy is to just call a guy preflop raise when you are sitting on something strong. Since he bet he will most likely feel he has to bet again to show strength and when he does you can just call and let him get pot committed then go over the top of him and bust him. Or you can do the opposite and play so aggressive that it looks like you are stealing and hope he will think youre pushing him around and he will push back.
