Mixing up your Bets and feeler bets.

online poker strategyMixing up your raises and Feeler Bets for a winning poker strategy.

An important part of any poker strategy whether you are playing online or off line is to mix up your betting. Mixing up your bets will keep you opponents guessing which is exactly what you want. You never want them to put you on a hand. This is a very vital part of any successful poker strategy for online poker room and regular casino poker room play. Let me explain this further.

What I mean by mixing up your raises is that you do no always bet with the same hands. Lets look at an example of what it means to mix up your bets.

Lets say you get dealt QQ and you are in late position at a $1 /$2 table. The action comes around to you and you make it $15 to play. With this raise you end up getting one caller. The flop hits 2 10 J . The caller is first so he checks to you. You make it 20 to play. He calls so you can probably figure him on AJ and can keep on betting. To make a long story short you rake in a good size pot. Some time goes by and you get dealt 89 of spades in the same good position. The action comes to you and you make it $15 to play everyone folds thinking you have a hi pocket pair, you flop over your 9 hi and rake a small pot. This is what I mean by mixing up your bets. Part of your betting strategy should be to keep everyone in the dark with what you are holding. You want to be unpredictable. You may be holding suited connectors you may be holding a hi pocket pair. This is the key to getting action and keeping your opponents in the dark. Lets look at another example lets say you get dealt AA in good position at a $1/$2 table. The guy in middle position makes it 10 to play. This time you go over the top of him and make it 40. He has AJ and to make a long story short you take half the guys chips with your AA. Well an hour passes and you get dealt 56 of hearts and he makes it 10 to play again. You immediately in the same good position make it 40 to play. Just like last time to make him think you have those AA again. He folds and flops over KJ thinking it is a good lay down you flop over your 6 hi and rake a small pot. When you can take your poker betting strategy online or offline to this level you are guaranteed to rake pots in online and offline poker room s. This kind of play will totally confuse your opponents.

Mixing up those bets is a vital poker strategy and needs to be practiced however once you can take it to the level described above you will always have chips in front of you.

So just to recap: mix up your hands, push action with a variety of hands to keep your opponents in the dark. You maybe raising with: suited connectors one minute, and the next it maybe AK or KK. Use position to your advantage when mixing up those raises. Consider how your opponents are seeing you and use your table image to bluff or steal pots. Any good online or offline poker strategy uses these tactics. Anytime you sit in a poker room for a bit and play with the same people you need to be sure to mix it up if you don?t after a while everyone will figure out your hands and you will be losing those chips in front of you. Use a winning poker strategy and mix it up. Try it out on your next visit to a poker room and let us know how you did in our poker forum.

Using Feeler bets in Winning Poker Strategy.

Feeler bets are another important part of a winning poker strategy. You want to be a proactive poker player not one that checks and calls all the time. A passive betting strategy very seldom ends in success, mainly because it does not let you get a feel for where you are in the hand. If you watch the pro's you will see them make raises with a variety of hands. They will bet on draws they will feel out where they stand with pocket pairs and so on. This is important because you need to know where you stand in a hand verses the other poker players at the table. Lets take and example of a feeler bet.

You get dealt 99 in middle position the blinds are 50/100. When the action comes to you you make it 800 to play. This is essentially a feeler bet before the flop that lets you know where you stand. You get two callers and another player mucks his hands, so know you probably got rid of one of the crap hands that were trying to limp in. The other two callers you have to put them on some kind of hand since they called. If one of them went over the top of you and it got to expensive you can fold the hand with a minimal loss. So essentially this bet is a feeler bet before the flop to see where you stand. Lets say no one re raised and you have two callers the flop comes K 5 3, Everyone checks to you now what? Do you bet with the over card on the board? Yes you need to bet to find out where you are at in the hand. This bet does not need to be one to make you pot committed, it is yet again a feeler bet to see where you are at in the hand. Ok so lets say you make it 1000 to play. One guy fold and the other calls. Well now you can put him on the K and probably a K with a weak kicker or he would have made a move on you. So now you know where you stand in the hand. The next card comes A, this is great for you. You can now bet to represent the ace. So you make it 1500 to play to represent the ace. He folds and you rake a pot because of your feeler bets. This is why feeler bets are so important they let you know where you stand in the hand and they also give you the ability to rake pots that you would have otherwise lost.

Feeler bets are a very important part of any poker strategy for playing in online poker rooms or in a offline casino poker room. If you have some examples of using feeler bets contact us and we will add them to this article or feel free to post it in our poker forum.
