 Poker Tell - Checking the Cards
This is not an online poker tell since you can not see your opponent, it is more geared towards live casino poker play.
If you ever wondered why people check their cards and what it means its really simple. Most of the time unless they check their cards all the time. Usually someone sitting at the poker table checking their cards needs to improve or is on a draw. Watch the flop next time in your next Holdem game. Say 3 hearts hit the board and see how many people start checking their cards. What this usually means is that they have one heart they just cant remember if it was the 8 or the K so they are likely on a draw. If someone does not look they are more likely to have the flush already and they other guys are chasing. In online poker you unfortunately cant see this so you will have to make your best guess based on a persons betting patterns. So next time you see someone checking their cards when a good draw hits you can usually assume they are still looking to improve and you can bet accordingly. Also this may apply to something like a mixed board for example say the flop comes K53 rainbow one guy bets another calls. The turn is 8 now the guy that called checks his cards. This usually means he has a low card with his K and is trying to see if he paired it. If he comes out betting after looking it is likely he may have made two pair. This is usually what it means when people are checking the cards. Sometimes preflop you will see people double check their cards usually that means they have a strong hand. If the hand is weak they may contemplate it or if its marginal but if it is strong they may look at it put it down and then look again. Like I said before this poker tell is more geared towards live casino play and not online poker rooms. So next time youre sitting at the casino and you see this make a mental note of what the showdown was and remember it so when you play the guy you will have an idea of what this tell might mean when playing this player.
