Craps
This game really moves and for
many people is the epitome of excitement in the casino. Variations of it have
apparently been in existence since the days of ancient Rome.
If you've ever watched a group of
people playing Craps, you know that they are having a really good time.
But if you believe that it must be very complicated, don't be deceived. Although
it looks fast and difficult, it is simpler than you think!
How to Play
Craps is made up of a series of rolls
of two identical dice. No cards are involved. As there are six numbers n each
die (1-6) a pair of dice offers 36 different combinations. The game revolves
around the probability of how many times these different combinations will
appear. Statisticians and Craps experts tell us that in 36 possible
combinations, the seven will appear six times. After that, the six and eight
will appear five times each. Then the five or nine will appear four times each.
Basically, the game is based on the number 7 and how often the other numbers
roll in comparison to it. (See chart below, according to Craps expert

On the first roll of the dice
(called the Come out Roll), the Shooter (player) hopes to gain a point by
turning up one of the following numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 (called a Point).
A roll of 7 or 11 (called a Natural) means that the wager is paid off at even
money. Rolling a 2, 3, or 12 loses the wager. This is called "Craps."
These are the only three options that the Shooter may roll. The game is
essentially based on the most frequently occurring number, which is seven and
its greater odds of coming up on a roll.
Types of Bets
Pass Line Bet. This bet is
considered the most profitable and popular of bets on the Craps table.
The player puts chips on the Pass Line field on the Craps table in
advance of the Come out Roll. A wager is made that the shooter will make the
Point, or that the shooter will throw a 7 or 11 on the Come Out Point. To win,
the Point must be rolled again before rolling the seven. If the shooter rolls a
seven before rolling a point, the Pass Line Bet will lose. A win will pay even
money.
The Don't Pass Bet. This wager
wins if the shooter Craps (2,3 or 12) is thrown on the Come out Roll or
if the Shooter does not make the Point. A winning bet pays even money (1:1) .
Chips for this bet are placed in the Don't Pass bar.
The Come Bet. This bet can be made
on any roll and is like a Pass Line Bet. (It is mainly to benefit players who
have just arrived at the table and wish to play immediately). There is a Come
bar on the Craps table where this bet will be placed. Come bets will win
if the shooter's next roll is seven or eleven, and loses if the Shooter
Craps (2,3, or 12).This bet will stay in place until the come point or a
seven is rolled.
The Don't Come Bet. This is like a
Don't Pass Bet that can be made on any roll during the game. There is a Don't
Come bar to place bets on the Craps table. This bet wins if the Shooter's
next roll is 2 or 3 and loses if the roll is 7 or 11.
Odds Bet. This type of bet may be
made on any of the above bets that have been already placed. It will win or lose
along with the original bet that you have placed. However, the Point must
already be in place. Its advantage is that it will be paid out at the correct
odds. The payoff is greater depending upon the amount that the player is willing
to risk.
Win Bet. This bet intends that one
of the following numbers: 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 will be thrown before a 7. Win
bets are not active during the come out roll. These bets are paid according to
the following ratios: 7:6 on numbers 6,7, and 8; 7:5 on numbers 5 and 9; 9:5 on
numbers 4 and 10.
Lose Bet. Conversely, this bet
contends that a 7 will be thrown before a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10. This bet is paid
on the following ratio: 4:5 on numbers 6 and 8; 5:8 on numbers 5 and 9; 5:11 on
numbers 4 and 10. These bets are also inactive during the come out
roll.
Field Bet. This bet pays even
money on the results of the next throw if 3, 4, 9, 10 or 11 is shown. It will
pay 2:1 if a 2 or 12 is thrown. If 5,6,7, or 8 is rolled then the field bet is
lost.
Big 6 and Big 8 Bets. This
Craps bet contends that a 6 will be rolled before a 7. Likewise, that an
8 will be rolled before a 7. These bets will win even money.
Hardways Bet. This is a bet that
4, 6, 8, or 10 will be thrown as a double before a seven and before the specific
number is thrown in any other combination.
Any seven: Pays 5 for 1 (4 to 1)
if a 7 is made in the next throw.
Any craps: Pays 8 for 1 (4 to 1) if
a 2, 3, or 12 is made in the next throw.
Craps Two: Pays 30 to 1 if a
2 is made in the next throw.
Craps Twelve Pays 30 to 1 if a 12 is made
in the next throw.
Craps Three Pays 15 to 1 if a 3 is made in the next
throw.
Eleven Pays 15 to 1 if an 11 is made in the next throw.
