Making quick decisions.
This particular poker tell is actually partly an online poker tell as well as a poker tell fro live games. I would say it is a bit more reliable in a real game then it is online because online there can be lag which may appear like indecision or a pause when there is not one.
This particular tell is when a player makes a move without hesitation. Lets talk about it in online poker first. When you are in an online poker room watch the reaction time of the players. If it takes a guy a while to respond and he disconnects a lot I would not rely on this tell as much. However if you can tell that the player has a good connection then this becomes more reliable. Usually a pause when someone is betting means they are bluffing or they are making some kind of conscious decision. This can go one of two ways one is that the player may have called your bet and now made his hand like a straight or flush hit the board and he is pausing to think about how to get the most money out of you or it may mean indecision or that he is trying to figure out if a bluff is possible. Generally when a poker player decides to bluff it will take him a few seconds to gauge the situation and decide if he can get away with a bluff in this spot. So usually a pause means a weak hand or some sort of decision is being made. IF you know a guy likes to trap and you have a strong hand and he likes to call his draws when the draw hits and he hesitates it is more likely he has made the hand. You need to watch the player to see what that means. If the guy bets without hesitation when he hits his draw then a pause is likely a bluff. If he always hesitates before making a trap lay it will mean he made the draw. The key is to watch and see what happens when a guy pauses and what that means. Now a lot of this has to do with playing the flop. When you raise preflop and someone pauses and then reraises it is more likely a marginal hand or a coin flip situation. Now of course none of this is 100 percent that is why you have to pay close attention to how a player has acted previously and establish a baseline of what his actions mean.
In live poker games this tell becomes more reliable because the possibility of it just being a delay in connection time is eliminated. The same rules apply here it just makes it easier to pick up on the tell. The key to any poker tell is to pay attention to the players and see if you can spot them do things and then play accordingly. I have seen these poker tells mean different things depending on the person that is why it is so vital to pay attention when you are not in the hand and to remember any vital information you can.
