Video Poker – Jacks or
Better
Once upon a time, draw
poker and five-card stud were the premier poker games. On the
video scene, draw poker continues to be very popular in its modified
version – Jacks or Better. The advantage of the Jacks or Better poker
game is that a draw or push (like a tie) now becomes a win. Also, the payback
has been greatly enhanced to about 99.5 per cent from 85 per cent.
There are many similarities
between video poker and live draw poker. In fact, video
poker was initially developed for use in the Casinos, but is now a very
popular private game. Reports note that casinos in Nevada receive about 60 per
cent of their overall take from these particular machines.
Objective
The machine deals five cards from
a 52-card deck. Then a decision must be made about which cards to hold and which
cards to discard. At Online Gambling Casino, the main objective is to get the
best paying poker hand. If the player has a pair with Jacks or Better, it
is an instant winner. A winning hand has a different payout, which is calculated
as the amount bet multiplied by the payout amount.
The advantage to Video
Poker is that there is no one else's hand to beat. Instead, the player
will win according to the machine's payoff schedule. It is not wise to hold onto
worthless or "kicker" cards in video poker that might be acceptable in
table poker. In video poker, the player selects which cards to
hold from the initial deal. Then the Draw button can be pressed in order to
replace those that have been discarded. The machine makes the payoff after the
final hand by either tallying the credits or dropping coins. If the player
does not have at least two Jacks in his hand, then the bet is lost. A Royal
Flush is the supreme prize hand. Although it is rare, if you happen to have it
in your hand it will pay you 800:1 on your bet at Online Gambling
Casino.
Cards are ranked from highest to
lowest, with the Ace being the highest and 2 being the lowest. An Ace can also
complete a low straight: A, 2,3,4,5. Spades, Diamonds, Hearts and Clubs make up
the four different types of suits. There are five cards in a poker
hand and the types of winning hands are ranked below, with Royal Flush being the
highest and 1Pair being the lowest.

Strategies
Video poker is known to be
a big winner for the house. However, there are ways in which the player can do
very well.
Experts state that there are 32
possible ways to play any dealt five-hand card. The player is able to discard
from one to five of the cards in the hand. Because the player has only seen five
of the cards in the deck, there are still 47 other options. Experienced players
advise that it is best examine various card combinations carefully, before
discarding any of the cards in one's hand. Note the expected value (EV) for
various combinations and consider the machine's specific payoff
schedule.
Playing poker on a video
machine has been described to be more like a game of solitaire. You are playing
by yourself in order to beat the machine.
Suggested guidelines for your
bankroll include the following:
Jacks or Better: ($.25) - $50.00 -
$ 75.00 per hour Jacks or Better: ($1) - $125.00 - $ 175.00 per
hour
Video Poker expert Dan
Paymar recommends the following tactics in his condensed Precision Play™rules
for Jacks or Better Video Poker. He contends that the application of the
following rules will yield close to 99.5 per cent pay back
1. Never break any made pay of Two
Pair or better, except break anything other than a pat Straight Flush for any
4-card Royal. 2. Break a High Pair only for a 4-card Royal or any 4-card
Straight Flush 3. Break a low pair or a 4-card Flush or Straight draw for a
3-card Royal, or any 4-card Flush or Straight Flush. 4. If you have a 4-Flush
and a 4-Straight, go for the Flush. 5. Break A-K-Q-J for any two suited high
cards. 6. Break any three of A, K, Q and J for any two suited high
cards. 7. Hold all high cards (jacks through aces), except discard the Ace
from A-K-Q, A-K-J or A-Q-J.
Other experts suggest these basic
approaches tot Video Poker:
1. The faster you play the better
your chances of getting a winning hand. 2. Know which cards to hold and which
to discard. If you are holding on to the wrong ones, your money will disappear
very quickly. 3. Decide how much money you can spend on the game. Your
bankroll must be able to support the machine that you have chosen to play. It is
recommended that you play the maximum number of coins for every hand.

professionals play up to 1,000 hands per hour? Practice makes a perfect Video
Poker player.
