How to Avoid Bad Beats by Playing Pocket Aces the right way.
Pocket Aces is one of those Hands that everyone loves to get it’s a monster of a starting hand that sets off the cash machine in most peoples heads. One of the most common mistakes being made with Aces is that they get played like an invincible hand. Believe me J10 will make a real mess of Aces with the right flop. Some poker players think I am going to play these real slow and let everybody in the hand so I can make the most money off my Aces. These are usually the same people you will hear complain about a bad beat with pocket Aces, this is not to say that even if you play them one hundred percent right that you will always win. What does happen is that if you play these cards right you will win more often with them. Personally I think Aces have the worst entitlement effect of any starting hand, which just makes them so hard to lay down. So pocket Aces have the potential to get you a huge pile of chips or to cost you a huge pile of chips. That is the hard part of this hand. When do you lay it down because you are beat. Lets talk about how you want to play these babies.
Ok lets say you look down and you are Looking at Pocket Rockets. You are sitting at a 1 and 2 dollar table and the action is to you. Now here is where you need to feel the table out. You want to make a raise here that will chase out all of the mediocre hands. This is usually a raise of a minimum of 5 to 10 times the blinds sometimes more depending on how loose the table is. The thing not too do is to let everyone limp in you want only premium hands in there with you. Narrow the field down to one or two callers. Aces can handle 3 most of the time. If you get more then that. Don’t just go nuts on the flop make a strong bet to chase out anyone chasing anything. If you see big time draws you definitely want to make a good size bet to discourage any chasing. If you do feel like the draw made and you get challenged consider the situation and act accordingly. Think about it if you made a big preflop raise and you have been betting big. You know you have the Aces no one challenges you until the Hi end Straight makes. All of the sudden you get challenged. Now you have to make a decision here depending on your past experience with the player. An aggressive player may try and make a move on you to represent the Straight here even if he doesn’t have it. So depending on your read you will have too act accordingly. If you think he has it throw the pocket rockets down. I know this is hard and believe me I have spent a good chunk of change not doing it. Playing the hand even when the little voice in my head was telling me your beat man.
So the right way to play pocket Aces is by making a strong pre flop raise and narrow the field down o a few callers with premium hands. Then make a strong bet after the flop if there is a good draw and chase out anyone trying to hit it.
This is how you play pocket Aces and win more as well as avoiding bad beats. Don’t let a guy limp in with K5 and the flop comes 9K5 youre never going to see it coming and loose a lot of chips. So the idea is to get Mr.K5 to fold before the flop comes.
