 Winning with Pocket Jacks.
Pocket Jacks is a tricky hand to play. It’s a good starting hand but any hi card can take it. So the best way to play this hand is aggressively. You want to make a large pre flop raise with this hand. In order to win in poker with pocket Jacks you have to be ultra aggressive and represent a Hi pocket pair or something like AK. This is a hand that you do not want multiple callers seeing the flop with other wise the chances of your hooks holding are diminished. The best thing to do to win with pocket jacks is to make a preflop raise that is large enough to where you only get one caller. One of two things will happen you will either get one caller or steal the blinds either one of these instances is good for you. If you do get a caller and the Flop comes with and over card fire a bet that makes it look like the over card helped you. Remember the other poker player does not know you have jacks he may have put you on AK and will fold if you make a good size follow up bet. If you think you are beat fold and get out of the hand. There are times where you will not win. However if you use this method when playing your pocket jack you will win more often then loose. Sometimes you will run in to a better hand and you have to be willing to fold them. Also the large preflop raise will let you know where you stand. If no one reraises you, you are up against over cards or maybe smaller wired pairs.
I played Jacks exactly this way in an online poker room the other night. I was on a 1-dollar cash table at this online poker room. I got dealt Jacks. There was a lot of raising preflop at this table the players were fairly aggressive. One guy made a preflop raise of 5 dollars to play I reraised it to 15 dollars. Everyone folded and he just called. The flop came K 9 7. I had position too so he checks it to me. I bet 25. He folded however he showed me his cards he folded K10. I took that pot down due to my reraise preflop and then a good size bet on the flop. He thought I had AK or a pocket pair like KK or AA. That is why it is important to make the preflop raises. Now if he would have called me I probably would have had to put him on the K and minimize my losses. I know this seems risky but if I can win 3 times out of 4 like this I am ahead in the long run with pocket jacks. Online poker is a bit tricky when it comes to this because the only read you have on the opponents is the betting. You can read anything form his body language. The other thing is to know your opponent if you been at the table a while and you know the guy will call if he has a set no matter what. You still need to make a bet maybe not one so big but still a good size bet to see where u are in the hand. If your opponent is half smart and you ck to him on the flop he is going to try and take it no matter if he has the King or not. So a follow up bet is a good idea no matter what.
