Re buy poker tournaments are basically like any other tournaments except you can buy back in for the first hour. So this is a different kind of play. You will see al ot of loose plays the first hour. Don’t let that be how you judge the competition. One of the strategies on rebuy no limit Texas Holdem tournaments is to advertise a loose style of play. You can be more aggressive in these types of tournaments for the first hour because if you bust out you can always buy back in. So sometimes you may play more loose the first hour and let people figure you for real loose and aggressive. This will make them more apt to call you later when you do have a monster hand. Just keep in mind if you advertise this kind of style you will get lots of action later so you better have a hand. Also the first hour don’t pay too much attention to how people play take some mental notes but don’t go 100 percent by what you see in a rebuy poker tournament the first hour. This is because other players will also be advertising a loose style to try and catch you later.
If you enter a rebuy tournament I recommend you have at least 4 times the buyin in your pocket. Also there is usually and add on after the break which will give you the opportunity to add on another couple of thousand in chips after the break. So if you are playing in a rebuy poker tournament what you want to do try and double up the first hour if not then get aggressive and try to advertise that you are aggressive and bluff a lot. This will set you up for later when you will hopefully catch some good cards. If you double up I would chill and try to build a good stack. If not I would set my self up for action later in the tournament. If you get people thinking you are reckless and you are dead money they will be chomping at the bit to take all your chips that is when you go back to your regular style of playing premium hands. I also would cut the bluffing to a minimum unless you sense weakness. Since you advertised it before people will be more apt to call you. So the thing to do is to flip the script on the players by being aggressive and bluffing at first then tightening back up after the first hour and playing premium cards. The other thing to consider here is to not be too loose you don’t just want to give your chips away. If you start chip stacking everyone at the table by being totally loose you will have a hard time later by having to play all these huge chip stacks.
Rebuy poker tournaments can be lots of fun to play in there is usually lots of crazy action the first hour then the real poker starts. The cheaper the rebuy in a poker tournament like this the crazier the action is initially. I have played in a 5 dollar rebuy tournament and its absolutely insane. I have also played in 30 dollar rebuy poker tournaments and the action the first hour is much better. However money is going to be the factor. I played in a 20 dollar rebuy poker tournament a few months back and the guy sitting to the left of me just set 200 bucks in rebuy money on the table. He was all in almost every hand the first hour. So I adjusted to only premium hands and tripled up on the guy. He was all in with J8, 73 and so on it was crazy.
So consider the wallet and play according to the table you are on if you can advertise and be aggressive do it. Since you can buy back in it wont hurt you to get a bit looser then normal. If you can double or triple up tighten up and play premium hands because the chances are you are going to go in to the second round way ahead.
