When a poker player Glances at his chips is he strong or weak?
Once you get past learning the basics how to play poker whether it is online poker or live local games the next step is to learn how to read your opponents. Spotting Poker tells is a very profitable skill to learn for two reasons. One is when you spot a tell you may be able to run a successful bluff on your opponent the other is if you can tell that your opponent is strong you can lay your hand down and minimize your losses which is as important as maximizing your gains, especially in no limit poker. In limit poker you have a cap on your losses so one hand cant hurt you as bad as in no limit poker. One hand can be the death of your stack. Now the poker tell we are going to discuss is a very common tell that is found in all types of players form beginners to advanced poker players.
Have you ever wondered what it means when your opponent glances at his chips? Well this poker tell is one of the most common poker tells you will come across. Usually when an opponent glances at his chips he has as strong hand or just hit his monster draw. Now of course in online poker you will not be able to utilize this tell. When you catch an opponent looking at his chips he has usually made a strong hand and is preparing to bet. This is the time to quit any bluff attempts. You are going to need an above average hand to keep playing. You will see this happen when someone completes a straight or flush or flops a set. Now if you have the nuts hand this is a great time to push because you will get paid big. The other side of this is that if you are playing a marginal hand get out and minimize your losses. Usually this poker tell is only going to take a second so you will have to pay attention to your opponents. In order to spot this tell what you need to do is to not focus on the flop or your hand until its your turn. When the hole cards get dealt out watch your opponents until it is your turn. On the flop do the same thing as well as the turn and river if he comes down to that. This is a fairly reliable tell but you have to pay attention to the players in order to spot it. Don’t be fooled by people that are acting strong. If a guy is staring at his chips this tell will not hold true. Typically the player will briefly glance at his chips and then look away that is why it is important to pay close attention to your opponents. Sometimes they will also briefly glance at your chips. Now if a player is trying to figure out how many chips you have left and is just staring at them it is more likely he is gauging any success at a bluff attempt based on your chip stack. So when you are playing poker next time try and see if you can spot a player who has this poker tell. This is the downside of online poker play since there is no way you can see your opponents this valuable poker tell can not be spotted.
